New Business a “Treasure Chest” of Antiques

Paul Hoppe plans to open The Treasure Chest, a new antique shop in Plover, at the end of the month.
Hoppe, formerly a package delivery driver, said he always had ambitions to open an antique business. He recognized the potential of an antique business after attending several auctions. The Treasure Chest will feature antique furniture and other items of interest.
“We are going to have a wide selection,” said Hoppe. “We are planning on having new stuff in here all the time.”
Hoppe said he has a personal interest in old chairs, but he’s also excited to display his 1938 Rock-Ola jukebox, which contains all its original records, on opening day. Hoppe doesn’t have a preference when it comes to the design of the antique. He said that quality and uniqueness contribute to the quality and popularity of an item.
The Treasure Chest will also contain country décor items along with the antiques.
Although he does not buy and sell to other antique businesses, Hoppe said he would send customers to another seller to satisfy their needs.
“If we don’t have something people need or want, we send them to another business,” he said, adding customers would also have the opportunity to negotiate prices for some of the antiques.
“What we always wanted to do was make it affordable to people,” said Hoppe.
“If people come in and like a piece, they can afford it.” Hoppe said an antique is typically defined as an object 100 years or older, but in his shop it will be left to the customer’s discretion. “Every antique has a story,” he said.
There will be door prizes, coffee and cookies at the store opening on October 30.
