After a six- month probationary period, Players’ Lounge receieved the blessing of the city plan commission last night, being granted its 12- month license renewal.
The sports bar was denied it’s 12- month renewal several months ago after at least one family brought noise complaints before the city. Player’s had also been in hot water for an underage drinking citation and an illegal poker game, which law enforcement officials had gone undercover to break up.
City leaders compared the complaints with those from other taverns in similarly- located residental neighborhoods, and gave Players’ six months to clean up its act.
Owner Jason Glisczynski maintained the bar’s place in the community, saying his business was unique to the area in having both the largest indoor volleyball court in the area and hosting several charity events gratis to local nonprofits.
“I think it’s always important to give back to the community,” Glisczynski said in an earlier interview with the City-Times.
“We’ve worked very hard to make sure any problems are fixed and don’t occur again.”
City leaders said Monday night no further complaints have come in from local law enforcement regarding Player’s.
“The only reports we recieved were generated by the owner, one for having an individual removed from inside the bar and another from the parking lot,” said Community Development Authority Michael Ostrowski.
“So we will be moving for approval,” he added.
Players’ will continue to be subject to the same renewal process as every other tavern as defined by city and state ordinances. Every tavern is required to apply for license renewal each 12 months.
The measure was unanimously approved by the city plan commission. It now lays in the hands of the Stevens Point City Council, which will vote later this month.
