As educators, we know that our goals include the promotion of literacy and to instill in our students the lifelong love of reading. We also know the importance of students having books to call their own from an early age. With that said, we are very excited to kick-off our community’s Books from the Heart drive.

This is the 14 year that the Stevens Point Area Education Association is sponsoring Books from the Heart, a program that encourages reading. For those of you new to our District, here’s how it works: Between now and February 10 you may donate books suitable for primary students or give a monetary donation to the BFTH program.

Our goal is to give a book to all public and parochial kindergarten students on Valentine’s Day.

If we have enough community participation, we will be able to extend the book distribution to grades 1 and 2 as well.

If you would like to purchase a book for donation, you may visit one of our local participating bookstores (Book Finders, Book Look, or Book World) where they are offering a 20% discount for all BFTH purchases. What a great deal! Each book receives a plate in which you may write your name. Books will then be held at the store for distribution on Valentine’s Day. If you’d like to give a monetary donation, checks may be written out to Books from the Heart and given to your building rep.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and continued support.

Happy reading!
