To the Editor –

Please take the time to watch the recording of the 14 January school board meeting. If you ever had a doubt that Act 10 was needed, those doubts will be relieved when you view the SPAEA’s whining, selfish and hateful attack against Dr. Weninger.

Recently, Dr. Keith Ablow commented on, “The American Freshman Study.” The study showed current college students are more likely to call themselves gifted, even though their SAT/ACT scores, current grades and time spent actually studying are decreasing. Never mind the fact they pick majors which will only lead them to their parents’ basements.

This same narcissism was evidenced by SPAEA members during this recent board meeting. Here are some facts:

Stevens Point school teachers earn more than 95% of other teachers in this state.

Our test scores (10th Grade) are absolutely rotten, and have been for years. We can barely beat Rhinelander.

Talk to your neighbors. How many high school seniors are sporting 20-22 on their ACT scores, even though they are “honor students” at SPASH? They are having a hard time getting into State schools.

So, instead of working to improve student achievement, union teachers have drummed up a host of complaints against our Superintendent, and are looking to the board to relieve him of his contract.

Union teachers – here’s the deal: Governor Walker and a majority of voters in this State are forcing you to contribute a small amount of money to your OWN retirements. We are requiring you to pay a small amount for very generous health care benefits.

You lost the election in 2010. You lost the recall. Instead of trying to tarnish the excellent reputation and efforts of Dr. Weninger, please look inward, honestly, at your selfish motives and realize, “It’s for the kids.”
