Walter “Charlie” Cordy, age 83
Walter “Charlie” Cordy, age 83, of Stevens Point, died January 20, 2013 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston, WI.
A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 am Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Boston Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 pm to 8 pm and also on Thursday at the funeral home from 9:00 am until time of service. Burial will follow the service in St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery.
Charlie was born March 11, 1929 to the late Fredrick & Hazel (Young) Cordy in Lytle, OH. While growing up, Charlie’s family lived in Ohio, Indiana, Florida, and settled in the Stevens Point area in 1945.
He married Lorraine Bungert in November 26, 1949. She preceded him in death on February 7, 1991.
Charlie worked in the Stevens Point area most of his life.
Charlie will be remembered for his giving nature and strived to help others in need. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ. He was a former senior volunteer for the Head Start Program as a foster grandparent, and also a volunteer at the Lincoln Center. Walter also enjoyed helping with the Meals On Wheels and volunteering his time at the Portage County Health Care Center. Charlie enjoyed spending time with family, was an avid bird watcher, and enjoyed cheering on the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include Children, Roger, Cheryl, & Barbara; brothers, Fred (Carol), & Hubert (Ruth); sisters, Rose (Richard) Brazil & Mary (Stanley) Hahn; grandchildren, Aaron (Brenda), Samantha (Mike), Ann (Rick), Amy Jo (David), & John; & 8 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant son, daughter, Judy; great grandson, Adam; sister, Elizabeth; and brothers, Arthur & Thomas.
Charlie was a wonderful, loving, son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. We are truly fortunate to have had him in our lives. He will be sadly missed and will always be lovingly remembered.
