Leo C. Kontney, 74, of Stevens Point passed away Tuesday January 29, 2013 at Northridge Assisted Living.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Leo will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday February 2, 2013 at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Parish – Torun. Rev. Gregory Michaud will officiate. Burial will be at the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives will gather to share memories on Saturday from 9:00 – 10:30 AM at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point. There will be no visitation at church.
Leo was born July 3, 1938 in Stevens Point, the son of Leon and Pauline (Gburek) Kontney. After schooling Leo entered the United States Army. After his honorable discharge he settled in Milwaukee. Leo married Judith Frieberg on November 13, 1970 in Milwaukee. The couple later divorced. He worked as a machinist for the Ladish Manufacturing Co. until his retirement. Leo moved to Stevens Point in 1996 and he enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, socializing with others, and since his move to Northridge in 2010, he found joy in offering help to anyone there that needed assistance.
Leo is survived by his children: Kurt (Tracy) Kontney; Kim (Jeff) Kazumura; Kelly Grotkiewicz. 8 grandchildren; 3 sisters: Antoinette (Jerry) Jelinski; Lillian Babiak; Theresa (Donald) Maslowski. Brother-in-law Leonard Gotz and sister-in-law Delphine Kontney. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters: Rosie and Edward Wiza, Clara Gotz; 3 brothers: Anton, Benedict, Joseph; one sister Elizabeth and one brother-in-law Joseph Babiak.
