For the City-Times

Watercolors by Jeanne Chase and books by senior center fiction writing class students will be featured at the Lincoln Center Gallery in February. In addition, art by students from McKinley School will be on display in the dining room. The watercolors will move to the Ruth Gilfry Center (817 Whiting Avenue) in March.

Chase owns Artisan’s Guild Art Studio which offers workshops in various media and is primarily a watercolorist, though she’s also working in fiber art, collage, pencil, and pastels. Her work has been shown locally in the Riverfront Arts Gallery and at events like Art in the Park and the UWSP Arts
Bash. She leads art workshops for youth and adult groups. Chase has been working in painting and watercolor for 20 years with inspiration mainly from nature and everyday surroundings. She also works with a designer friend in Texas producing art for clients’ homes.

Author Darlene Biese Schultz has been the instructor of the fiction writing class since 2006 and five of her students have published a total of ten books, including her own fiction book, Decision or Destiny. Five children’s books were written by the following: Ken Danczyk, Grandpa’s Farm, illustrated by Natasha Flatoff; Leto’s Leap and Table Manners, written by Gladys Nelson, illustrated by Carol Strand; Bonnie Rutta wrote: Bianca and Diego, Two Peas in a Pod, and Fun at the Cabin, illustrated by Carol Strand. Clifford Leary shares his memories in three published books. His first book is: Grandpa Cliff’s Verses, next an autobiography, Grandpa Cliff Remembers; and Grandpa Cliff’s Tales, an anthology of short stories. A novel, Unintentional Deception, was written by retired teacher Robert Rutta.

An author’s reception with refreshments will be held on Tuesday, February 5 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Center. The authors will be available to meet and answer questions about the writing and publishing process.

Lincoln Center, 1519 Water St., is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
