Local Journalist Becomes New PR Man for United Way
For the City-Times
A veteran journalist has joined the staff of United Way of Portage County to head its Communications & Marketing Department.
Scott Steuck, the former managing editor at The Portage County Gazette in Stevens Point, will serve United Way as its Communications & Marketing Director. In this role, Steuck will help develop and implement United Way’s marketing plan each year, serve as its media liaison and public relations practitioner, work with United Way’s 34 partner agencies to communicate how the funds they receive are helping the community, and assist staff with the annual campaign and other activities.
“I look forward to informing the public about how the support it gives to United Way helps make a big difference in the Portage County community,” said Steuck. “I hope to use my journalism experience to tell the narrative about how this support has helped many people in countless ways.”
United Way of Portage County Executive Director Sue Wilcox said she is excited about Steuck’s addition to the staff. “We’re thrilled he’s bringing his experience to United Way,” said Wilcox. “His work covering United Way as a journalist was first-rate, and we know he’ll bring those same skills here to help with our mission.”
A Waushara County native, Steuck graduated from Ripon College in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He was the news editor at the Waushara Argus from 1997 to 2007, and joined The Gazette staff in 2007 as an associate manager. He became managing editor there in 2010. He is in the process of obtaining a Master of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he has specialized in public relations.
