Dunham’s Back on the Market- Again
By Brandi Makuski
City leaders can’t seem to unload the former Dunham’s building.
Officials were close to a deal with Schertz-Fahrner LLC for the building, located at 1101 Centerpoint Drive. The deal included a sale price of roughly half of the $700k the city paid for the building in 2011, but city leaders say the deal was tossed when the parties couldn’t agree on parking.
“One of the main elements we couldn’t agree on is the parking area we’d planned to the south of Dunham’s,” said Michael Ostrowski, Director of the Community Development Authority.
“They wanted that parking area, and they wanted the CDA or the city to commit to keeping that a parking space in-perpetuity,” Ostrowski said. “But really at this point in time we couldn’t commit to that.”
The parking lot could be a potential home for another business or green space in the future, and Ostrowski said the city had no way of knowing what the future could hold for the space.
The property has been placed on the market for other developer interest.
“The next step is to do an RFP (request for proposal) similar to what we’re doing with Edgewater (Manor), and we’ll get that RFP out to interested parties,” Ostrowski said.
Schertz-Fahrner currently owns several commercial properties on Main Street and Post Road, as well as a five- lot subdivision in Plover near the Sky Club.
