Reader Opines on Upcoming School Board Election

This year, we have some excellent choices for school board members.  We also have the chance to replace two members who have done nothing more than conduct a witch hunt against an excellent Superintendent.  Please consider the following candidates:

Terry Rothmann – He has a background in business and is very involved in the school district.  He recently spent a lot of time and effort on a public charter school grant which would go a very long way to help our mediocre test performance.

Jeff Presley – Jeff has been here before and deserves another chance.  He was one of the realists on a previous board who knew we should not be sacrificing programs and forcing parents to pay $150, per sport, per child, while teachers were not even asked to sacrifice.  He is a reasonable person who can build consensus.

Jeff Ebel – Jeff would bring a wide variety of experience to the board.  He is a business owner, very involved in Big Brothers/Big Sisters and has experience working with unions.  Like Jeff Presley, Mr. Ebel could build consensus on difficult issues.

Sam Levin – If for no other reason, Mr. Levin deserves a seat on the school board because he fought for and won public comment during board meetings.  Granted, most of the comments are either SPAEA members launching attacks at the Superintendent, or a certain citizen’s most recent conspiracy theory, but public comment is valuable and takes some of the tedium out of board meetings.

So, please consider these fine candidates and do not allow this district to go back to the days of referendum after referendum; cancelled program after cancelled program.  Our children deserve to have serious, capable people, facilitating matters which affect their futures.
