Freda E. Thompson, 96
Freda E. Thompson, age 96, passed away peacefully at Whispering Pines Assisted Living on Thursday, March 14, 2013.
Freda was born on January 22, 1917, in Rosholt, WI, the daughter of the late Peder & Emma (Hotvedt) Gullikson. She attended school in Rosholt, WI, graduating in 1934, and moved to Evanston, IL to work and put herself through nursing school, graduating from Evangelical Lutheran Hospital Nursing School in 1939.
Freda worked as a Registered Nurse in Evanston, IL, and Boston, MA, during WWII, Langlade County Memorial Hospital in Antigo, WI, the office of Doctors Ghein, Stein and Erickson, and at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point, WI, retiring in 1974.
She married Andrew G. Thompson on September 14, 1940 in Evanston, IL. He preceded her in death November 19, 1979.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six siblings and their spouses, Adelia (Herb) Loeper, Gladys (Irving) Hartson, Irving (Mayme) Gullikson, Alford (Ann) Gullikson, Lloyd (Edith) Gullikson, & Evelyn (Luell) Dobbe; 2 grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
Freda was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Stevens Point, WI , and helped with various activities over the years including quilting projects, assembling baby layettes, church rummage sales, assembling monthly newsletters, altar guild, the Women of Trinity group and serving at various luncheons. She also volunteered her time assisting residents at the Stevens Point Care Center and the Portage County Health Care Center, escorting them to chapel services. She enjoyed getting together with her friends to play cards and dine out. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Paul (Patricia) Thompson of Lynchburg, VA, Judy (Jim) Schorman of Eau Claire, WI, Joyce (Sam) Molski of Stevens Point, WI, Jan (Mike) Slowinski of Junction City, WI, and Karen (Jim) Baumgart of Muskego, WI. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 am Monday, March 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Stevens Point, WI. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9:00 am until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Wisconsin, Rapids, WI.
