Letter: Vote Freeberg for Comptroller-Treasurer
To the Editor-
On April 2the City of Stevens Point will vote for a new Comptroller-Treasurer as the current Treasurer John Schlice retires. Carrie Freeberg has worked under John for the last 13 years as the second in command in the Deputy Comptroller-Treasurer position, and previously worked in other departments in the City of Stevens Point for 11 years.
Her experience over the 24 years of getting to know the different departments in the City of Stevens Point, and having the knowledge of how to do the Comptroller-Treasurer position make Carrie the best choice for the position. While others may say that having outside private sector work experience is better, I can tell you from my own experience that nothing is further than the truth.
As a Lake District Commissioner I had to go through the learning curve of how government offices work, which is different from the private sector. Our laws require more documentation, checks and balances, and proper protocol to be followed than what is required in the private sector. On top of it there are different challenges when working with government offices at the state vs the local level, which requires a different set of knowledge.
Carrie in her 24 years has gained that knowledge, making her ready to do the job starting at day one without a learning curve. Along with a strong business sense, Carrie has the ability to look at both sides and listen to find out what the real heart of an issue is.
She does her research and takes the time to think issues over before making a decision, and does her best to make decisions that will be fair and best for all who are involved. Her enthusiasm to help, and her dedication to serve our community in volunteer roles and various fundraisers round her out as the best person to handle the Comptroller-Treasurer job.
