March Madness was in full swing over the weekend in Stevens Point as Special Olympics Basketball Teams from around Wisconsin converged on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Multi-Activity Center(MAC) for the Qualifying Sectional to the State Special Olympics Tournament to be held April 6-7 at the Kolf Center on the UW-Oshkosh Campus. The Stevens Point YMCA Toon Squad finished the tournament with a 1-1 record and were awarded a birth at the state tournament.
The Toon Squad opened the day with a 50-47 win over the Manitowoc Badgers. Chris Sniadejewski lit up the score board with 20 points. Dustin Disher and Tony Biga each added 10 points. CJ Mence chipped in 6 points. Toon Squad dropped its second game on a buzzer beating shot in overtime to Columbus 40-39. Sniadejewski led the squad again with 14 points. Biga added 10.
