Mayor to Negotiate Joint Dispatch, Possible Sale/ Rent of City Properties
City-Times Staff
The Stevens Point Common Council on Monday agreed to give Mayor Andrew Halverson the green light to negotiate the potential to sell, rent or transfer ownership of several city properties.
After a closed session that lasted over an hour, Common Council members decided the mayor could move forward with talks over the future of the current Mid-State Technical College building, the current City Hall location in the City-County Building, the Portage County Library and the Lincoln Center.
No details were provided on the potential future of the buildings, though Mid-State has been discussed as a possible future home of City Hall.
No action was taken on the city’s tentative agreement with the Boys and Girls Club, which has plans to open an expanded center in the city’s rec department building near P.J. Jacob’s Junior High, and has ties to city offices relocating to that spot as well.
Halverson was also authorized Monday to enter into negotiations with county officials regarding the joint dispatch center. This after Police and Fire Commission members met in closed session in late March to discuss the city’s negotiation strategy.
