Ronald R. Heck, 81
Ronald R. Heck, age 81, of Plover, died April 27, 2013.
Ronald was born July 28, 1931 to the late William & Edna (Ruhl) Heck in Belleville, IL. He grew up in Belleville, attended the local schools, and graduated from Belleville Township High School. Following high school, Ronald attended McKendree College graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. During then, he had played in the American Legion Baseball National Tournament.
Ronald married Mary Ann Hoeflinger on June 9, 1956 in Belleville, IL.
After college, Ronald became an Insurance Adjuster for Western Adjustment Company in Hampton Village, MO, Centralia, IL and the Chicago Area. Following brief employments at Zurich Insurance Co & Hannover Insurance Group, he moved to Stevens Point in 1971 to take charge of Property Insurance for Sentry Insurance. He later became Corporate Property Director for Sentry. Among his accomplishments, he helped write Sentry’s Plain Talk homeowners policy. He also spent 15 years on the Property Loss Advisory Board of the Property Loss Research Bureau. Ronald retired in January of 1992.
In his spare time, Ronald enjoyed model railroading, horseshoe pitching, traveling, camping reading, and sports, especially golf & softball. He had hosted a trivia team for 35 years. Following retirement, Ronald was a a volunteer driver for Portage County Human Services for 10 years. He was a president of Sentry Employees Club in 1975, and past president of Western Loss Association.
He was an Adult Boy Scout Volunteer for over 25 years; Troop Master of Troop 293 (1975-1977); Mushkodany District Commissioner (1981-1985); Samoset Council Commissioner (2000-2001); was on elder deacon and treasurer at various churches; and was Stephen Minishter (2004-2009) with St. Paul UMC. In Boy Scouts of America, Ronald received the following awards, District Award of Merit in 1983, Woodbadge, Boy Scouts James E. West Fellow (2008); earned Silver Bearer in 1987.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Hoeflinger of Plover; daughter, Susan (Peter) Fourness of Edgerton; son, Barry (Jane) Heck of Middleton, daughter, Julie (Roy) Fonseca of East Peoria, IL; and grandchildren, Kirby Heck, Emma & Renee Fonseca.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A time of Visitation will be held at Boston Funeral Home, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, May 3, 2013. A Funeral Service, Celebrating his Life, will be held 11:00 am, Saturday at St Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Howard Hintzman officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00 am until time of service. Interment in Valhalla Cemetery, in Belleville, IL will take place at a later date.
