Thousands of students from the Stevens Point Public School District took part in the 44th Annual Elementary School Track meet held at Goerke Park this week.

Students wore school colors on their clothes, faces and hair in an effort to display the best school spirit.

The two- day event took place May 28 & 29 and pitted area fifth and sixth graders’ physical meddle against each other in various track & field events. Events included shot put, long jump, hurdles and tug of victory (also known as “tug of war”).

Points were awarded to students based on individual effort and team skills. Jefferson Elementary earned the highest point total, which garnered the school it’s first- ever win for the Spirit Jug, a traveling trophy vied for each year.
