The Stevens Point Dispatch Center will begin its move into the Portage County Communications Center beginning the week of June 24.
City dispatchers will be working out of the County Communications Center. This will allow for training and transition before the County assumes full dispatching responsibilities for the City of Stevens Point on August 4.
Residents of Stevens Point who typically visit the police department for service after hours or on weekends are asked to call the department from home rather than drop by in person. For those who need to come in person, a phone will be available at the courthouse entrance to call the Portage County Communications Center beginning July 1.
“The police department is committed to continuing to provide excellent service to the citizens”, said Police Chief Kevin Ruder. “Consolidated dispatch will allow for better use of resources but will require some slight changes by the police department and citizens. To avoid having to wait in the vestibule, we recommend people call from home or another convenient location.”
Residents will still dial 911 for emergencies and 715-346-1500 for non-emergency situations in the city.
The Police Department Records Bureau hours remain 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Monday through Friday.
