Public Service Commission Approved Whiting Water Increase
City-Times Staff
The Wisconsin Public Service Commission has approved a water rate increase for Whiting.
Village of Whiting residential customers will see a 51 percent increase in volume and meter charges. Under the new increases, customers who currently pay $41.99 in volume charges for 11,000 gallons of water will pay $63.23 for the same amount of water each quarter. Residents’ meter charge will also increase from $13.50 to $18.90.
The PSC also increased the Public Fire Protection charge, collected on property tax bills by 12 percent.
Village President Paul Stroik said the new rates were mainly due to a decrease in water revenue over the past several years, as well as new expenses from a new water treatment plant.
A special utilities commission meeting will be held Tuesday night to explain the new rates further. The meeting begins at 5 PM at the Whiting Municipal Center.
