James J. Drifka, 76
James J. Drifka, age 76, of Stevens Point, died August 4, 2013 at St. Michaels Hospital, Stevens Point.
James was born on April 23, 1937 to the late Joseph & Alice (Wanta) Drifka in Milwaukee, WI. He grew up in the area, attended St Adalberts Catholic Grade School in Milwaukee. His family later moved to Stevens Point where he attended St. Stanislaus Catholic Grade School. James graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1955. He later attended UW-Stevens Point.
He was married to Donna Knolinski in 1957. They later divorced. James married Andrea Waterson June 22, 2000.
James worked at the One Stop Sport Shop for a number of years before becoming employed with Consolidated Papers- River Division. After 40 years of service, James retired from there in 1997 as a Machine Supervisor.
James will be remembered for his friendly and outgoing nature. He loved spending time with his family. James was a devoted husband and father. He was a true outdoorsman, as he was a dedicated hunter and fisherman. In his spare time, James enjoyed golfing. He had an exceptional green thumb and indulged in his love of gardening , creating one of the best gardens in Portage County. James also was a devoted sports fan. He loved cheering on the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Badgers.
He is surived by his wife, Andrea of Stevens Point; children, Wayne Drifka of Duluth, MN, Carrie (James) Blaskowski of Avondale, AZ, Stacy Drifka of Stevens Point, Corey Drifka of Marshfield, Ryan Drifka of Plover, and Lori Waterson of Stevens Point. He is further survived by his siblings, Carol Orlik (late Leonard Orlik) of Stevens Point, William (Patti) Drifka of Stevens Point; 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service, commemorating his life, will be held 7:00pm Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Boston Funeral Home in Stevens Point, with Dwaine Habrat officiating. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 4:00pm until time of service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.bostonfuneralhome.net.
Jame’s family would like to thank the Paramedics/EMTs and the Emergency Room Staff at St. Michaels for their diligent care. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
