The Old Main Neighborhood Association (OMNA) is holding a block party, and party organizers say the entire town has been invited.
The event is Saturday August 17 from 4-8 PM along the 1800 block of Briggs Street. Music and BBQ grills will be provided, along with hot dog, brats and other picnic food. Attendees should bring their own beverages and lawn chairs.
The rain date for the event is August 18.
OMNA is the only neighborhood association in Stevens Point. The group works with city and police officials to help lessen crime in college neighborhoods, promote safety and good neighbor practices from within.
Event organizers say the party is intended to unify the diverse neighborhood, which is comprised of college students, single families and elderly homeowners. Stevens Point police have nicknamed the neighborhood “the core” because of frequent calls for loud parties and vandalism.
OMNA co-founder Cindy Nebel said she hopes the party will break the ice between the generations and encourage communication, which in turn lessen problems which require police assistance.
She also said the party could become an annual event.
