Dennis “Buzz” Koback, 71

flagDennis “Buzz” Koback age 71 of Stevens Point passed away peacefully Tuesday August 13, 2013 at home surrounded by family after a courageous 11 year battle with cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Buzz will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday August 17, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Jerzy Rebacz will officiate.
Friends and family will gather to share memories from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point. A Bible Vigil will be prayed at 6:00 Friday night at the funeral chapel. Visitation will also be held on Saturday from 9:00 – 9:45 AM at St. Joseph Church. A memorial in his name will be established with the American Cancer Society.
Buzz was born July 3, 1942 in Stevens Point, the son of Roman and Mary (Hopkins) Koback. He attended St. Stephens Elementary and P.J. Jacobs High School. Buzz married Bonnie Mae Kinney on September 17, 1960 at St. Stephens Catholic Church.
Buzz entered the United States Army on May 2, 1961 in Milwaukee. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter Badge. He was honorably discharged from Fort Huachuca, AZ on May 1, 1964. After serving his country Buzz and Bonnie returned to the area and he started a 34 year career at UPS. Buzz earned a 25 year safe driving award from UPS and retired in 1999.
He played in the local softball leagues in the area for many years, enjoyed gardening and took great pride in growing great tasting tomatoes. Buzz was an accomplished cribbage player, he learned how to fish from his Uncle Pat, and taught his kids and others the art of catching fish. Most of all Buzz loved his family and enjoyed his grandchildren and their events.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie, and their seven children: Shelly (Jeff) Eckerson, Plover; Christopher (Betsy) Koback, Portland, OR; Scott (Cathy) Koback, Stevens Point; Jodi (Kevin) Flatoff, Stevens Point; David Koback, Stevens Point; James Koback, Stevens Point Anna (David) Harvath, Custer. 9 grandchildren: Ethan, Eli, Ezra, Addison, Hannah, Avalon, Monty, Camille, and Claire. He was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts and uncles. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.shudafuneral.com
