Hello, fellow eaters. This is one of the last weekends before kids return to school, so we’re focusing on family- engaging recipes to help close out the summer. We all remember the surge in popularity over “Jell-O Jigglers” which prompted mothers all over the country to rush out and purchase special molds and mini cookie- cutter type instruments to make eating Jell-O a bit more fun. Ha- like you even need to.
But, we came across a darling recipe which, while it could also test your patience, could somehow close the gap between homemaking and a play on modern technology: the Apple Jiggler.
First, you’ll need six flavors of Jell-O (we used the generic brand): blueberry, grape, strawberry, orange, lemon and lime. Prepare one flavor at a time, beginning with blueberry, and pour into a greased glass casserole dish.
You’ll have to let this first layer set in the refrigerator for several hours. Prepare the grape gelatin according to directions and pour over the blueberry. Continue with each flavor, allowing each layer to settle for several hours in between.
When all your layers have completely set, you’ll need to slice vertical sections, roughly one inch thick. After this, i’s as simple as using a miniature apple- shaped cookie cutter.
