ALS Fundraiser Walk Planned
For the City-Times
The 2nd Annual Father Dan Farley Run/Walk to Fight ALS “Because You Can!” is dedicated to Father Dan & all those affected by Lou Gehrig’s disease in Central Wisconsin.
The event will be September 21st at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Almond.
Last year’s event gathered approximately 200 participants from central Wisconsin as well as all over the state of Wisconsin and we were able to give the ALS Association of Wisconsin a check for $10,000, $7,500 of which stayed right here in Wisconsin to help those with ALS and the support of family members of those living with ALS or have lost a loved one due to the disease. $2,500 went to research of the incurable disease.
This is a third Party event with ALL proceeds being directly donated to the ALS Association – Wisconsin Chapter.
This fall, thousands of concerned people of Wisconsin will step out and participate in an official Chapter sponsored Walk to defeat ALS or one of the many third party sponsored events such as the Father Dan Farley Run/Walk. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease currently afflicts more than 30,000 Americans, and 15 people are diagnosed with ALS each day! Currently 31 individuals are living with ALS in Central Wisconsin. This statistic reflects those individuals who have voluntarily registered with the local ALS chapter.
Currently, there is no cause, cure or treatment for this fatal disease. ALS strikes individuals throughout the world observing no racial, ethnic or socioeconomic boundaries. With an average life expectancy of two to five years, ALS is a threat to everyone.
The ALS Association is the largest private source of funding for ALS-specific scientific research in the world. In addition, monies raised from the walks provide Wisconsin ALS patients with patient services and family support, patient-rights advocacy and important information about ALS and research programs through a nationwide network. The monies we raise in Wisconsin stay in Wisconsin.
The Walks to Defeat ALS are the most important fund-raising activities of the year. With your support and participation, we can make the Wisconsin walks the most successful ever. We invite you to participate as each small step can have a big impact. Attending a walk/run might be your first face to face experience with people and families living with ALS. We promise you will be profoundly moved by the camaraderie, the support and the incredible courage.
We desperately need you in our fight against ALS. We hope you will join us.
