Ellis Stone Construction Company will be honored with the Associated General Contractors (AGC) 2013 BUILD Wisconsin Award in the Municipal Utility/Underground category for construction of the Stevens Point Well No. 11. This project was the only one to receive an award in this category. 

The Well 11 project culminated the largest capacity municipal groundwater supply project ever in Wisconsin (9,000 gallons per minute). The design of the plant was done with an emphasis on creating a plant with very high efficiency. The use of the plate settler for recycling filtered backwash water results in less than 1% of waste.

The water treatment plant utilizes gravity filtration through anthracite, greensand and torpedo sand, filter media, a large plate settler for maximizing recycling of filtered backwash water and UV disinfection. It is the largest plate setting system for groundwater plants in Wisconsin. The plant has standby generators with sufficient capacity to power the entire water supply and treatment facilities in the event of an emergency thus ensuring the community will continue to have a high quality water supply.

The engineering firm for the project was Short Elliott Hendrickson.

The BUILD Wisconsin Awards are a testament to the skill, integrity, hard work, ingenuity, and commitment that goes into construction projects. A panel of construction industry professionals including an architect, engineer, facility owner/manager, city building official and university professor select the top outstanding construction projects to receive the BUILD Wisconsin Award.

This is the eleventh year of the BUILD Wisconsin Awards and the seventh time Ellis has been honored with this distinguished award. Other Ellis projects to receive the award are: Delta Dental in Stevens Point, Mark Toyota Scion in Plover, Fox Valley Technical College Waupaca Regional Center, InteVation Food Group in Plover, Travel Guard World Headquarters in Stevens Point, and the St. Paul Catholic Church in Mosinee.
