Hearing Scheduled for Proposal to Close Forest Surrounding Mine

A proposal in the state legislature will close thousands of acres of forest land surrounding a proposed mining site by Gogebic Taconite.
In conjunction with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Senate Committee on Mining will have a public hearing Wednesday.
State Senators Glenn Grothman and Tom Tiffany are proposing a closure of nearly four thousand acres of DNR managed forest land in the Penokee Hills. The move is designed to protect mine workers from protesters.
The Senate Committee on Mining will conduct the public hearing Wednesday at the Capitol beginning at 11:00 a.m.
