Train As Volunteer During Preparedness Month
For the City-Times
The American Red Cross is expanding its local disaster response teams and is actively recruiting more volunteers. Now is the time for new volunteers to complete the application process so they can attend the upcoming disaster training conference and receive quality Disaster Services experience and instruction.
The American Red Cross is hosting a state-wide regional training conference which will be held in Wausau during October 16-20. At this conference, volunteers will gain the knowledge and skills they need to help people affected by disaster. Volunteers will have the chance to access all types of trainings as well as network with other volunteers all across Wisconsin.
Each of the classes available will provide volunteers with essential knowledge and experience in being able to ready themselves as Disaster Responders. Psychological First Aid, Disaster Action Team Communication Tools, and Leadership Development Training are only a few of the classes offered.
Being a Red Cross Volunteer Disaster Responder is a highly rewarding experience. “My favorite part of being a volunteer with the Red Cross is being able to help people who are in need, no matter how big or small the need is,” said Laurie DeFlorian, a Red Cross Disaster Responder. “Being a volunteer with the Red Cross gives me the ability to help these people when they may have just experienced the worst event of their lives.”
It is important that interested individuals complete the application process online prior to the Disaster Training Conference. Interested individuals should begin the application process as soon as possible.
People interested in volunteering can view current opportunities & begin the application process online at redcross.org/volunteer. You can also contact the local Red Cross at [email protected] or call 877-618-6628 ext. 5822.
