Kenosha Teachers Union Decertifies
By Patrick Lynn
One of Wisconsin’s largest unions has disbanded.
The Kenosha Education Association missed a key recertification renewal deadline last week after it lost power to bargain for base wages in the district. When the group might actually disband has not been made public.
The Kenosha union is just the latest since Act 10 was implemented in 2011. According to Reuters, 32 unions in the state have seen decertified.
In Wisconsin, unions that aren’t certified are still allowed to operate but aren’t allowed to bargain for limited base-wage increases with the district. But trying to get recertified after falling behind a cycle or two will cost the union money, which would likely force raised dues from members.
