City-Times Staff
Portage County Sheriff Deputies on Sunday arrested a 23 year-old Portage County woman who allegedly caused the death of a Lanark man after she drove drunk.
Hanna Schacht’s car hit another vehicle driven by Richard Wetzel, 31, of Lanark, around 10:20 AM on Buelow Drive. Authorities say Wetzel was pulling out of a driveway when his vehicle was hit. The crash caused Wetzel’s vehicle to spin into a nearby tree line.
Wetzel’s passenger was his father, 51 year- old Daniel Wetzel, who was killed in the accident. Richard Wetzel was taken to Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah. His condition is not known.
Schacht, who tested positive for alcohol with a 0.15 percent BAC on the scene, was uninjured in the crash. The three passengers in her vehicle were also uninjured and all wore seat belts. Along with alcohol, law enforcement authorities say speed was a factor in the crash.
Criminal charges are pending.
