Dreier Wants Public Present for County Budget Presentation

Portage County Executive Patty Dreier will present the 2014 county budget October 1, and she wants everyone to attend.
Dreier said the percentage of levy increase for 2014 is “less than 21 percent of 21 of the last 30 years”, but would not give further details.
She also called recent media reports about county spending “ridiculous”.
“I’ve held down taxes my entire term,” she said.
Dreier said she hoped members of the public attend to hear the proposed budget because she wants feedback from residents.
County Board Supervisor Tom Mallison said changes can be made to the budget, and recalled board decisions to veto or amend parts of the budget minutes before final approval of the overall budget. He added public communication with board supervisors was essential.
Dreier said this year’s budget will be easier for lay people to understand and copies will be available online or in print for a fee.
The budget presentation will begin at 5 PM in the courthouse and is open to the public.
