Richard “Dick” Barden Jr., 69
Richard “Dick” Barden Jr., age 69, of Stevens Point, passed away on September 27, 2013 after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer.
Dick was born January 6, 1944 to the late Richard C. & Teckla (Wiza) Barden in Stevens Point, WI. He attended local schools and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1962. Dick continued his education and graduated from Electrical Lineman School in Eau Claire.
He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Lee Garfield on August 20, 1962. They just celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.
Dick worked at Water Works and Lighting Commission, Wisconsin Rapids for 43 years retiring as an Electrical Line Crew Supervisor. He served as Union Steward and on the “E” Board.
He was presently serving as Town of Linwood Supervisor. In the past, he served as Town of Linwood Chairman, Portage County Board Supervisor for the Town of Linwood and Carson and worked part-time for the Town of Plover.
Dick was always there no matter who you were or what you needed help with. He was a man who could fix anything even if he didn’t have the parts, he was able to make it work. In his spare time, he enjoyed going on vacations, especially the yearly January trip to Florida which he and his wife did for over forty years. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and wood working. When he did a woodworking project, he was never satisfied with something simple, it had to always be extra special. Dick always enjoyed auctions, going to rummage sales on Saturday mornings, Harley Davidsons, attending old car shows, and cruising with his wife in his 1961 Corvette.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; daughter, Terri (Jon) Rogers; grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) Plante, Keelia Rogers and Tahlia Rogers; great-grandchild, Leon Plante, sisters, Diana (Merlin) DeByl, Joyce (Fred) Lewandowski; brother, Dennis (Kathy) Barden; mother-in-law, Florence Garfield; brother-in-law, Richard (Barb) Garfield; special friends Debbie and James Nix, and numerous nieces and nephews.
