Saints Hockey Opens Season at Home With Buza Fundraiser
For the City-Times
The Central Wisconsin Saints just completed their home opening series last weekend, featuring three hard- hitting matchups with the Marquette Royales.
Fridays game was a benefit for Trevor Buza and his family. Trevor was a Saints youth hockey player until he went to high school. He played one year on the Pacelli Co-op Hockey team. Trevor has been diagnosed with viral meningitis and has been in Marshfield Pediatric ICU since just after Labor Day.
A portion of the gate from the game, along with donations from the fans, is being donated to the Buza family to help with medical costs and other expenses from staying with him in Marshfield. Leslie Buza, Trevor’s mother, gave a statement at the beginning of the game updating us on Trevor’s recovery. She then took the ice for a ceremonial puck drop and was presented with a Saints jersey with “BUZA” on the back and signed by the team.
While the team dropped all three contests to the first place Royales, they were in every game and played well. The best part about the weekend was the wonderful fan response and attendance at the games.
The team estimates the attendance was up over 50% over last year. Coaches from another team in the league reported that, “The Saints put on a good show, a great game day experience.” Every weekend features intermission games, 50/50 raffles and exciting hockey.
Next weekend the Saints are on the road in Fort Wayne, Indiana for a three game series. The next home series for the Saints will be Friday October 11 at 9:30 pm, Saturday October 12 at 7:00 pm, and Sunday October 13 at 10:30 am, all at the KB Willett Arena in Stevens Point.
