Weekend Marred by Highway Injuries, Deaths

Two elderly women were killed and two others have been injured in two separate car accidents this weekend, one occurring on Highway 10 and the other near Polonia on Highway I.
One woman was injured when her car drifted from the road on Highway I near Polonia. Shortly before 4 AM on Saturday, her car hit a mailbox and several trees before finally coming to a stop, according to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman, whose name and age have not yet been released, was airlifted to Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital. Her condition was stable at the scene but the extent of her injuries is unknown. Alcohol is a suspected factor in that crash.
Two elderly woman died in a two- car crash on Highway 10 on Sunday afternoon just before 2 PM.
The Wisconsin State Patrol reports the crash occurred near County K and forced authorities to close one westbound lane of Highway 10 for several hours. According to the state patrol, one car crossing the eastbound lanes of Highway 10 was hit in the passenger side by an oncoming car.
Two Stevens Point women, ages 85 and 92, were killed in the crash.
Another woman involved in that crash, a 26 year-old from Minneapolis, was taken to St. Michael’s for non-life threatening injuries. Speed was believed to be a factor in that crash.
No names have been released at this time.
