DOT Building New Salt Storage Facility on Hwy 10
For the City-Times
Crews plan to begin construction of a new salt shed at the US 10/WIS 34 north interchange in Portage County. Work is currently scheduled to begin on October 21.
Earth Inc. is the prime contractor for the $574,000 project. Crews will build a salt shed and a commercial storage garage, and pave the access road and lot for the facility.
The construction of the new shed at this location will assist Portage County Highway Department crews with winter maintenance on state highways in the northwest section of the county. The new facility will increase salt storage for the county and reduce snowplow cycle times during winter storm events. The county’s other salt storage facility is located in Plover.
Construction is currently scheduled for completion by December 2013. The project is being paid for entirely by state transportation funds.
