Wisconsin Leaders Return Some Pay During Gov. Shutdown
By Patrick Lynnn
With the dust of the federal government shutdown nearly settled, four Wisconsin representatives say they will return some of the pay they received while Washington closed its doors.
U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson said through an aide on Thursday he would return nearly $8,000 in pay. Johnson was paid $7,627 during the 16-day shutdown because his pay is direct deposited and that process couldn’t be stopped, aide Patrick McIlheran said.
Johnson will return that money in a check to the U.S. Treasury, McIlheran said.
Other Wisconsin leaders, including Sen. Tammy Baldwin, Rep. Sean Duffy and Rep. Ron Kind also indicated during the shutdown they were asking for pay to be withheld during the shutdown, though calls to the offices of Baldwin, Duffy and Kind for confirmation were not immediately returned.
