Thousands of Crappie Find New Home in McDill Pond
City-Times Staff
Thousands of crappie were released into the McDill Pond on Tuesday.
The fingerlings were released as part of the Lake District’s effort to restore the pond after two years of ecological imbalance. The pond was emptied in 2011 after a leak was discovered in the McDill Pond Dam and was only refilled this May.
The McDill Lake District worked with the Bill Cook Chapter of the Isaac Walton League to supply the fish, which district leaders say will help return the pond to its most natural state as they wait to take over ownership of the pond.
