Helen was born on May 7, 1935 in Clintonville, Wisconsin, the daughter of Herbert and Ella (Fredrick) Bovee. She graduated from Clintonville High School in 1953. During her time there she was involved in several organizations and elected to leadership roles in some. She especially enjoyed participation in class plays and all aspects of any available musical activities. Her love of music continued throughout her life. On August 4,1956 she married the love of her life, Joseph Ralph Jersey, a close friend while growing up at St. Rose Catholic Church in Clintonville.
Helen attended Wisconsin State Teachers College graduating in 1957 with a degree in elementary education. After her youngest child was in first grade Helen began her career at McKinley school in Stevens Point, teaching second grade for the next 30 years. Helen truly loved every minute of her work and had a warm place in her heart for every child in her class. Students and parents felt that she was special and was very much appreciated by those she touched. Helen often said “Every child in my class is going to feel successful every day”. Helen had a patient, loving and caring demeanor and wanted to make a positive difference in every student’s life. Helen retired in 1999.
Helen enjoyed playing the piano and singing with her children. She especially enjoyed singing with the church choir at Sunday Mass, funerals and holidays. She loved holiday seasons and her house was decorated inside and out like a wonderland. She deeply valued her growing family of son-in-laws and grandchildren. Helen was always a very loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her quiet, patient and gentle ways are family legend.
Summer camping was a very great treat for Helen which she did often with her husband. This was a time for taking walks and then relax by reading and listening to music at the camp fire with her dogs by her side and spoiling them with treats.
