Lyal K. Sward, 87
Lyal K. Sward, age 87, of Stevens Point passed away Thursday morning at Bethany Nursing Home in Waupaca, he had been a resident at Whispering Pines this past year.
A Celebration of Life service for Lyal will be–Stevens Point. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral chapel. The Plover VFW Post 10262 will hold a ritual at 11:00 AM at the funeral chapel. Burial with full military honors will be performed at Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Lyal was born May 12, 1926 in Stevens Point, the son of Kenneth and Martha (Langton) Sward. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School. He entered the United States Army Air Corps on July 20, 1944 in Milwaukee. He served his country in Southern Phillippines and earned the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, 3 Overseas Service Bars, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battle Star. He was honorably discharged on August 16, 1946 at Ft. Sheridan, IL and returned to the Stevens Point Area. Lyal married Germaine Zynda on May 13, 1950 at St. Peters Catholic
Church. He began his 35 year career at the Copps Corporation and retired in 1988. He was a member of the Plover VFW Post 10262 and the Stevens
Point Moose Lodge. Lyal loved taking care of his lawn, and always claimed to be a jack of all trades and a master of none. He and Germaine enjoyed being snowbirds to Arizona for many years.
Lyal is survived by his son John (Janeen) Sward, Waupaca. 8 grandchildren: Scott (Corinna) Kosobucki; Heidi Sward; Craig (Marne) Sward; Nathan Sward;
Kathy Sward; Troy (Deanna) Kosobucki; Lindsey (Bill) Kane; Nick Barton. 9 great grandchildren and his sister: Ardeen (Jerry) Young, Marshfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Germaine in 2004, their daughter Bonita Kosobucki in 1990, 2 sisters: Eva Rasmussen and
Nila (Webb) Simon, and his brother Alvin.
