The Stevens Point Plan Commission on Monday will consider approving a new student housing complex on Division Street.
According to city documents, Appleton- based CCFS Group, which filed as an LLC with the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions on November 20, is in charge of the project.
CCFS is requesting permission to build a 182- bed apartment unit at 209 Division Street, currently the site of the Point Motel. City leaders have been in closed- session talks, which is standard procedure for property or employment negotiations, for over a month.
The Commission will consider the proposal during its next meeting Dec. 2 at 6 PM at Lincoln Center, 1519 Water Street. The meeting is open to the public. The proposal could then move forward to the City Council in January for final consideration.

Area residents packed the November, 2012 City Plan Commission meeting to object to a proposed housing unit on Doolittle Drive. Residents also came out in force to oppose a student rental proposed for the former Cooper Motor site in February last year. Both projects failed to gain approval by the City Council.
