The spring election is just around the corner- and 31 seats inside Portage County are up for grabs.
Portage County Clerk Shirley Simonis said all 25 County Board Supervisor seats are up for election April 1. Unlike other counties, she said, Portage County doesn’t stagger the board election and there’s a possibility of an entire new board every two years.
The Portage County Executive is also on the spring ballot.
“Candidates can draw papers from the GAB (Government Accountability Board) website, but we also welcome them to come in here,” Simonis said. “They should be filling out a campaign registration statement when they fill out their intent to run.”
Simonis added candidates shouldn’t be collecting or spending any campaign contributions until after their paperwork has been filed with the clerk’s office.
Stevens Point could also see five new alderpersons in April, with all even-numbered districts up for grabs.
The deadline for filing campaign paperwork is Jan. 7 at 5 PM.
