Report: Wisconsin Ranks 34th in Nation for Economic Freedom
City-Times Staff
Wisconsin lags behind the majority of the nation when it comes to economic freedom, according to a new report from the Fraser Institute.
In the recently- released Economic Freedom in North America report, the Badger State ranks 34th in the country and 40th in North America based on data studied from 2011. The ranking is based on a 10-point scale that accounts for the impacts of various government restrictions on economic freedom.
The report states: “The freest economies operate with minimal government interference, relying on personal choice and markets to answer basic economic questions such as what is to be produced, how it is to be produced, how much is produced, and for whom production is intended. As government imposes restrictions on these choices, there is less economic freedom.”
