Two Student Veterans Awarded Scholarships at UWSP
For the City-Times
Two student veterans at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point have been honored with the Thomas E. Meiers Memorial Scholarship.
Jamie Clarkson, a U.S. Marine veteran, and Amanda Folz, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, each received the $1,300 scholarship. It is named for a U.S. veteran who was attending Wisconsin State College (UW-Stevens Point) when he died in a car accident in 1964.
Clarkson, of Stevens Point, is a senior with a triple major in accounting, social science-economics and business administration, with an emphasis on finance, real estate and insurance. She is a member of the UW-Stevens Point Veterans Club and the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. She also coaches for the university’s track and field team. She plans to graduate in May 2014 and hopes to earn a master’s degree in accounting and own her own business as a certified public accountant.
Folz, of Wittenberg, is a senior majoring in special education and hopes to teach students in kindergarten through eighth grade. She plans to graduate in May 2015.
