E-Cigs Could Become Exempt From Smoking Ban
By Patrick Lynn
A State Senator from West Bend is sponsoring legislation should could exempt electronic cigarettes from the state’s smoking ban.
Electronic cigarettes, also known as “e-cigarettes” appear similar to a traditional cigarette but are battery- powered vaporizers, heating up a chemical mixture to deliver nicotine to the smoker, who then exhales a cloud of vapor rather than smoke.
State Senator Glenn Grothman says the devices are intended to stop people from smoking regular cigarettes and should be exempt from the state’s law prohibiting smoking inside public businesses or buildings. Currently state law does not address e-cigarettes.
Grothman says he wants a hearing on the proposal once the state legislature returns in January.
