UW President Steps Down Dec. 31
For the City-Times
Kevin Reilly will leave his job as president of the University of Wisconsin System on Dec. 31.
Reilly was at the helm when it was discovered hundreds of millions of dollars were being kept as cash balances in accounts across the UW campus system at the same time UW officials asked state leaders for tuition increases. The UW system also came under fire when earlier this year some $33 million in benefits overpayments to system employees was uncovered, of which the system recovered $20 million.
Reilly hired 31 chancellors and interim chancellors during his time at the helm. He also played a pivotal role in advancing two new programs- the new flexible option degree program which was aimed at working adults, and Growth Agenda for Wisconsin, which in 2006 began to churn more college-educated citizens into the community, creating more well-paying jobs.
