Mike Wiza announced Tuesday he will be seeking reelection to the 4th District seat on Stevens Point City Council and Portage County Board. Wiza has been serving on Council since April of 2004 and the County Board since 2006.

With 5 generations of family that have resided in his District, Wiza has lived on the north side almost his entire life. He is well known for being vocal on issues, whether is favor or against. Wiza is active in the community and has been quick to volunteer for community improvement projects.

“It’s been very rewarding, serving on Council and County Board.” said Wiza in a statement. “I get an opportunity to help people, improve the quality of life in our community, and help bridge relationships between residents and government and between municipalities.”

Wiza is employed at Skyward, Inc. His wife Chris is employed at Sentry Insurance, and their daughter, Madison, is currently employed at @1800. They are also members of St. Peter’s parish.

Mike is a member of the Izaak Walton League and Prime Water Anglers. He is also the Chairman of the Portage County Judicial and General Government Committee, Portage County Solid Waste Committee, and the County Parks Commission. He serves on the City Parks Committee and Public Protection Committee. He also serves on the Portage Co. Space and Properties Committee.

“We’ve managed to accomplish quite a lot in the past few years, but there’s so much more that can be done. As a member of the City Council and County Board, my votes helped bring jobs to and keep in the community, avoid wasteful spending, put more emergency services resources in the area, added park land and conservation easements to protect our water supply and other resources. I’ve fought to keep our restorative justice programs and reduce recidivism, keep a stable tax rate and maintain our essential services.” said Wiza.

Wiza can be reached at 341-1136 and says he welcomes questions, comments or concerns.
