Bitter Cold Near- Record Temps Here Monday, Tuesday

An arctic blast will hit the state Saturday night and reach its coldest level Monday and Tuesday of next week, January 6-7, 2014.
According to Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM), temperatures will remain below zero degrees for a period of a 64 – 84 hours between Sunday and Wednesday, with wind chills bring those temps down to 40-50 below zero.
“We haven’t seen temperatures this cold since about 1996…18 years ago,” said Patrick O’Connor, director of response and recovery for WEM. “At this point, it doesn’t look like record cold, but it is getting close.”
O’Connor said the coldest part of the state will be the north central area of Wisconsin. The forecast shows weather will rebound to a much warmer 20 degrees by Thursday. He also said wind chill warnings will likely spring up throughout the cold snap.
