Deadline to File Nomination Papers Could Be Extended

Nomination papers for local candidates to run in the upcoming election are due at 5 PM Jan. 7, but local municipal officers may consider closing on Tuesday if the weather is bad.

Temps in the region are expected to reach 50 below zero in the early part of next week, and officials have already cancelled school as well as the Stevens Point City Plan Commission meeting on Monday, with Tuesday’s status undecided until Monday afternoon.
The Government Accountability Board (GAB) has released information for municipal governments to deal with the potential of offices closed during the current deadline Tuesday afternoon. In a memo received by the City-Times, GAB indicated that deadline may be extended by 24 hours if the filing date is a holiday or is closed for severe weather.
Should city and county offices close Tuesday, Jan. 7, the new deadline will be Wednesday, Jan 8. at 5 PM.
