List Still Growing: Closures Continue on Tuesday, Wednesday

With wind chill values Tuesday forecasted to reach -50 below zero, some businesses and programs are expected to close early, close altogether or extend hours.

For The Kids
The Stevens Point 7th Semi-Annual Art Show/ Open House scheduled for Jan. 7 has been cancelled and will be rescheduled.
All Stevens Point Public & Parochiol schools have been cancelled for Monday, Jan. 6 & Tuesday, Jan. 7.
YMCA programs held at school sites, including 4-K and after school programs, are closed as well.
The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County will remain open. The Plover Club will be open 9 AM- 5 PM and the downtown Teen Center will run from noon- 6 PM. Call 341-4386 with questions.
Carousel Gymnastics, 6487 Eckels Road in Plover is closed Tuesday.
Deadline Extension
The Stevens Point Public School District offices will be closed Monday & Tuesday along with all public and parochial schools. Therefore the deadline to return nomination papers for the Stevens Point School Board is extended to Wed., January 8 at 5 PM.
All other city and county offices up for election, to include City Council, County Executive and County Board of Supervisors, will continue to have the regular deadline of Tues., January 7 at 5 PM.
Early Closures
The Portage County Public Library, which is serving as a warming station for area residents, will close at 5 PM on Monday. Both locations of Copps Market will also close at 8 PM, reopening Tuesday morning at 6 AM.
Trigs County Market will remain open, and while there are no plans to change their hours, its meat and deli departments may close early to allow employees to get home earlier. Store Director Jean Koprowski said the store “isn’t even designed to close early; we’re a 24- hour store.” Shoppers are advised to call in advance to double check.
The Hwy. 10 location of the Stevens Point Dairy Queen/Orange Julius will close at 8 PM today.
All Advanced Pain Management clinics will close at 4 PM.
One Stop Mattress Shop, 2545 Plover Road, is closed today.
Hostel Shop, 3201 John Joanis Drive, is closing at 3 PM.
Cancellations/ Delays
The Stevens Point Plan Commission meeting, scheduled for 6 PM Monday, has been cancelled. Council President Jerry Moore, who has served on the Council since 2000, said “this is the first time since I’ve been on the Council any government meeting has been cancelled for the weather.”
The meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday, Jan. 9 at 6 PM at the Lincoln Center.
Advanced Disposal offices and transfer stations will be closed Monday. All garbage collection will be delayed one day throughout the week. Monday routes will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesday routes collection on Wednesday, etc. The landfill will remain open for “emergency situations”.
The Girl Scout Cookie Rally scheduled for tonight at 6 PM at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, has been cancelled. No word on a rescheduled date.
Point After Pub & Grill, 801 Second St. will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Call 715.342.7222 for questions.
All Central Wis. Aging & Disability Nutrition Program meal services cancelled Tuesday.
The Stevens Point Prostate Cancer Support Group, which meets Wednesday night at 7 PM, has been called off.
The Aging & Disability Resource Center of Portage County has canceled all bus service and nutrition programs on Tuesday.
The Stevens Point Police & Fire Commission, which was scheduled for Tuesday at 4 PM, has been cancelled.
PABS Point Area Bicycle Service, 1311 Strongs Ave., will be closed Tuesday.
The Wooden Chair, 1059 Main St., is closed for the remainder of Tuesday.
Heritage Pub, 929 Main St., is closed Tuesday.
Southside Square, 2300 Strongs Avenue, will be open but will not be delivering orders Tuesday night.
