The University of Wisconsin System has a new president.
The Board of Regents have chosen 66 year-old Ray Cross during a special closed meeting Thursday afternoon, after spending about $100k on a national search for finalists. Cross replaces Kevin Reilly, who left the top UW spot Dec. 31 and is the third consecutive internal candidate to be promoted to UW president.
Cross has led UW Colleges and UW-Extension since 2011, for which he earns $227,250 a year.
Cross will be paid $525,000 a year for his role as system president.
