Stevens Point Transit is still running as normal, despite up to nine inches of snow expected in the area by nightfall.
“We’re a few minutes behind, but we run because people are needing to get to work, school, whatever,” said City Transit Manager Susan Lemke.
Lemke said the city buses were running last week as area schools were cancelled and municipal meetings rescheduled due to extreme cold, and in all her time with the city, those transit services have never been cancelled.
“On one occasion, several years ago, we had glare ice and we had to delay our start time for a couple of hours because staff was having problems getting in,” Lemke said. “Other than that, I’ve been here over 16 years and we’ve never shut down, we’ve always run. Something we’re a little late, but we do our best to stay as close to our time as possible. We’re out there for the individuals that need us.”
