Amherst Calls Early School Day, Point Still Unsure
City-Times Staff
With up to nine inches of snow expected by Tuesday night, officials from the Stevens Point School District say they are considering an early release day, though no decision has been made.
So far, Tomorrow River School District will be releasing all classes released at 1 PM. All after school activities there have been cancelled, but so far, Stevens Point schools will run as normal.
“We’re monitoring the weather,” said Sarah O’Donnell, the district’s communication liaison. “They haven’t made a decision yet, but as soon as we know, you’ll know.”
School officials were forced to cancel all classes for two consecutive days last week when temperatures dropped to -50, but Tuesday morning the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the Central Wisconsin Area.
The warning, which calls for wind gusts, drifting snow and a possible 5-9 inches of snow, expires at midnight.
